Leviathan - Ubuntu 9.04

Introduction

This is the configuration page for the Ubuntu 9.04 partition on Leviathan.

Fonts

• Added Arial Unicode MS (ARIALUNI.TTF) to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/windows (see here)

File System

• Fixed: CIFS shares not properly unmounted during shutdown - see bug here
• Mount /windows/c as read-only (option ro in /etc/fstab)
• Mount /windows/c and /windows/d owned by user mich (option user=mich in /etc/fstab)

Network

• Wireless Lan: SSID = ManticoreNet, WPA2 Personal, connect automatically, available to all users
• Wireless Lan: SSID = LochNessNet, WPA2 Personal, connect automatically, available to all users

Detailed Application Settings

Amarok

• Bug: No sound in Amarok under Gnome!!!
  • Installed KDE systemsettings (in order to select pulseaudio as reported here), but doesn't work
  • Fixed: Installed libxine1-ffmpeg as indicated here, works!

Courier IMAP

• Install instructions here
  • Create directories for web-based administration
  • SSL Certificate: /etc/courier/pop3d.pem, /etc/courier/imapd.pem
  • Postfix configuration: local only
  • System mail name: Leviathan
• Changed default mail directory name - in file /etc/courier/imapd: MAILDIRMAKE=.Maildir

Gnome DO

• My reference page
• Start Gnome DO at login
• Hide window on first launch (quiet mode)
• Launch key: <alt>+space.
  • But 1st change shortcut for Activate the window menu

Nautilus

Password Safe

• Installed Windows version using Wine
• Version 3.18 (here)
• Requires Arial Unicode MS font to work properly (see here)

SSH

• User Mich - Create key (see SSH#Install)

Skype

• Skype 2.10 beta
• Issue: No microphone. Hear loud noise instead. Although the first test with Skype test call seemed to be good, following calls with Emmanuel (as well as subsequent attempts with the Skype test call) had the microphone issue
• Fixed: Actually it's Skype that's screwing up my record settings!.
  • First open Gnome Preferences → Volume Control → Capture: HDA Intel - CONEXANT Analog (PulseAudio) → Set volume to max.
  • In Skype, Options → Sound → Don't let Skype adjust automatically mixer levels

Wine

• Version Wine 1.0.1

  • First run winecfg as normal user:

  • When installing applications, icons are not showing up properly on Desktop
  • Partial fix: it seems that .desktop files are created in some .local directory in user home folder...
