Game mechanics
Get as much as item drop as possible. MF doesn't change rune drop. Only kill as much high-level monster as possible, or open as many special chests as possible (ie. chests with much more drops like those in Lower Kurast). Kill Countess (but mid runes only) because she has special drop pattern. Kill monsters that cant' drop armor or weapons (like Wraiths, Finger Mages, Vulture Demons, Willowisps, and the Swarm...)
  • Special chests
Chests with special drop pattern, usually dropping much more items. These chests appear at known locations. Players run for these chests because they have a higher chances to drop runes.
  • Normal items vs MF. Getting some conflicting information.
  • On Arreat Summit, they explain that with 20% MF, and a monster that has 2% to drop a magic item, it will become 2.4% to drop that item with that MF. But then it would mean 0.4% less chance to drop a normal item instead?
  • On PoD chat, the players were saying that MF does not influence the chance to drop a normal / white item. But after some discussion, they seem to agree that indeed more MF, means less normal white item. This is because the game first pick an item base (like cryptic axe), then would test whether it would be unique, if not whether it would be a set, then rare, then magic, and otherwise normal, and that MF would boost these ratios at each stage.
  • But the item calculator does not reflect that. If I look at the probability to get a Thresher from Hell Bovine, it is always 1:1451 independently of the MF. How can that be?

Guides

Guide from Path of Diablo, how to find your ways in all levels to rush run them.
Max area level, no much immunes, easy and fast kill, can drop best objects in game.
Enigma +45% (Armor RW), Circlet of speed +30% (helmet), Mavina's Belt 20%, Cat's Eye 30% (amulet), Infinity +35% (Weapon RW) or dual-wield Wind RW +40% or dual-wield Crainte Vomir +40%, various boots +40%, 40x small charms of inertia +120%, Harmony RW on act I merc (bow).
Guide to find runes in LK, by opening special chests, but not really relevant for online play because maps are always reset.

Sorceress build guides

The detailed guide I'm currently following. Maxing Frozen Orb then Meteor.
Some problems with Cold / Fire immune in Hell Act I already...
Another guide suggested by players on PoD Discord, better than MeteOrb
Several builds, hints and tips. Worth reading.
Some tips about sorceress stats distribution. Worth reading.

Mercenary guides

  • Merc gets the most XP if they kill the monster themselves. To keep in mind if merc is lagging behind.
  • Equip: Life Steal, to keep him alive in fight (for melee merc only).
  • Equip: Increased Attack Speed. Allow merc to leech even more.
  • Equip: Crushing blow, a good boss killer.
  • Equip: Slow target item, nearly as good as damage reduction items.
  • Equip: Mana leech *useless*.
  • Merc MF stacks with player MF, but only if merc does the kill. Important when dealing with boss.
  • Use Full Rejuvenation (rather than Healing), heals faster. Use cube recipes to make such potions.
  • Thaw / Anti potion time stacks up. Feed your merc before a killing session.
  • *...and much more information to read again later...*

Quests

Pandemonium event (patch 1.11)
This event requires first collecting keys from the Countess, the Summoner and Nihlathak (hell difficulty). Then to collect three organs by opening three portals, each requiring the three keys (so 9 keys needed in total). Then open a red portal to Uber Tristram by transmuting the organs in the cube, and fight Uber Baal, Uber Diablo and Uber Mephisto. Reward is the Hellfire torch unique large charm.
Diablo Clone
Diablo Clone drops the Annihilus unique small charm. It is triggered by selling Stone of Jordan unique rings.
Diablo Clone (Path of Diablo)
Can be triggered manually
Ancient Temple Maps (Path of Diablo)
An alternate set of maps that can be accessed from the Ancient Temple using Relics. First relic (Tier 1) is obtained from Hephasto the Armorer in Act 4 on Hell difficulty (about a 10% chance).

Path of Diablo (PoD)

  • Light modding, but great improvement on Gameplay (widescreen support, doubled inventory and stash, improved rune drops...)
  • Support for Loot filters (I use an own variant of Simplicity, but the best is apparently Anirmls).
  • Active community.

A bit more modding. With an item shop, so might be suspect...

Runewords

Tips
  • So RW grants Probability of Casting with long term effect (like Fade on Treachery RW, lasting for 288s).

Leaf TirRal Polearms, staves Yes Suggested here to fix mana issues. In fact Leaf can still be used by high-level sorc, see this guide.
Insight RalTirTalSol Polearms, staves No Suggested in this guide for Sorc, for fast mana recover.
Smoke (gamepedia) NefLum ? No Suggested in this guide. Seems a better alternative than Stealth proposed in the same guide.
Enigma JahIthBer Armor Yes Offer +1 Teleport/Warp (2sec cooldown), and +2 Skills. But no resistance.
Ancient Pledge RalOrtTal Armor No Suggested in early ladder PoD guide, as early ladder gear, for the early resists.
Spirit TalThulOrtAmn Shield No Suggested in early ladder PoD guide. For the 35% FCR and 55% FHR. Also gives +2 all skills and lot of resistance.
Lore OrtSol Helm No Suggested in early ladder PoD guide, for the +1 skills, Mana Per Kill and Lightning Resist.
Treachery ShaelThulLem Armor No Suggested in early ladder PoD guide, for the Merc, for massive IAS and Fade Proc (Probability Casting). Better done on an Ethereal Elite armor.
Infinity BerMalBerIst Polearm Yes Suggested on chat for lightning-only sorc build. Some also say that light sorc with infinity are the fastest to farm.
Memory LumIoSolEth Staves Yes Suggested on chat for those that level up a lightning sorc, to change some lightning surge into phys damage.
Harmony TirIthSolKo Missile weapons No Suggested on chat to get Vigor aura, to run much faster.

Frequently-used recipes
  • 3 magic rings = 1 random magic amulet.
  • 3 magic amulets = 1 random magic ring.
  • 3 small rejuvenation = 1 full rejuvenation.
  • 3 gems of same type = 1 better gem of same type
  • Wirt's Leg + A Tome of Town Portal = Secret Cow Level.
Recipes to use someday
  • 3 gems of same type = 1 better gem of same type
  • 3 perfect skulls + 1 Rare item + Stone of jordan = add 1 socket to rare item.
  • 1 Perfect Skull + 1 Rare Item + Stone of Jordan = 1 High Quality New Rare Item of the same type.
  • 3 Perfect Gems (of any type) + 1 Magic Item = 1 New Random Magic Item of the Same Type
This produces an item with same ilvl. Very interesting to produce +2 skill amulets [1] or better charms [2], [3]
  • 1 RAL + 1 AMN + 1 PAmethyst + Non-magic Weapon = Socketed Weapon of same type.
Useful to get a socketed Broad sword / Long Sword / Crystal Sword for SPIRIT (note that Crystal Sword may have up to 6 sockets so may require more retries).
  • 1 TAL + 1 AMN + 1 PRuby + Non-magic Shield = Socketed Shield of same type
Useful to get a 4os Monarch for SPIRIT.
  • 1 Ral Rune + 1 Sol Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald + Normal Unique Weapon = Exceptional Version of Weapon
  • 1 Tal Rune + 1 Shael Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Normal Unique Armor = Exceptional Version of Armor
  • 1 Lum Rune + 1 Pul Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald + Exceptional Unique Weapon = Elite Version of Weapon
  • 1 Ko Rune + 1 Lem Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Exceptional Unique Armor = Elite Version of Armor
  • 1 Ort Rune + 1 Chipped Gem (any kind) + Weapon = Fully Repaired and Recharged Weapon
Some advanced players prefer this method over payment.

Tips

  • Don't use heavy armors, they have speed and stamina penalties. See for instance Crow Caw Armor vs Twitch.
  • Don't pick anything when recovering dead body, or that can lead to losing items (which occurs when having more than one non-empty body. Consider command /nopickup [4].
  • To reset traded items at merchants, exit the town, wait for the music to change or for mercenary aura to trigger (only a few secs), then get back in.
  • Sometimes it is helpful to create a new map so that merchant is closer to the exit (e.g. Drognan in Lut Gholein).
  • Another tip is to trade by Anya in Act V when the red portal is still present. Taking the portal will reset the traded items. If red portal is no longer there, just open the game with a char that still has it, then return with the char that wants to trade.
  • Note that this is only for trading. When gambling, items are reset automatically.
  • Interesting items to shop
  • Wand with Lower Resist charges (Wand of Lower Resistance), to break monster immunities. Easily bought by Drognan (make sure he's close to town exit).
  • Wand of Life Tap, to get 50% life leech, which is very useful against strong monsters.
  • To Refill Portal Tome, just sell and buy it back. It works even with merchant that does not sell any scroll of town portal!
  • To show items permanently: Open your inventory, press alt, open your cube (it has to be in your inventory, not in your stash), release alt, and close your cube/inventory. [5]. Press alt again to reset.
  • Rune cubing. It is recommended to cube low and middle runes in order to reduce the space used in the stash, or even in a mule character. Some tips I follow:
  • Use a dedicated character for carrying the rune, with her/his own horadric cube.
  • In general, keep at most 5 of the low runes (ie. #1..#14), and cube the others. Some exceptions though.
  • Cube below RAL (ie rune #1..#7) can be freely cubed.
  • Don't cube RAL rune, but keep them for horadric recipes, like socket recipes, caster amulet, Blood helmet.
  • Other runes that are useful: TAL and AMN (socket recipe), THUL (caster boots), ITH (caster belt), ORT (recharge/repair).
  • Prebuffing. Some items or runeword gives a strong aura when hit, usually with some probably per hit (like Treachery, 5% chance to cast Level 15 Fade when struck). The tip is then to wear the armor with the aura (like Treachery / Fade), stand in fire and wait until it triggers, then swap armor.
