New HP Elitebook 850 G6.

  • Issue: black screen when booting with the HP Thunderbolt dock G2
  • Disable Win 10 "Turn on fast startup (recommended)". Can be done via Control Panel or registry ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power] "HiberbootEnabled"=dword:00000000)
  • Update HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 firmware -> already done (through assistant).
  • Update BIOS -> boot in BIOS, select update BIOS. Current BIOS was 1.5.03 (or something), upgraded to 1.6.
  • ... problem seems to be fixed now.
  • Let's re-enable the fast startup (maybe was still using an old G2 driver).
  • ... Still having some issues. Unplug/Plug the docking seems to fix the issue, but I don't want to do that.
  • DONE - Keep "HiberbootEnabled"=dword:00000000
  • DONE - Checked FW again, and in fact the docking FW upgrade did fail. Try to reinstall... installed manually, now the installer reports that all components are up-to-date.
  • DONE - Say that Fast Boot must be disabled in BIOS for pre-boot usage. Not sure if this is necessary, or what are the consequences...
  • ... No more issues reported after several days... Issue is back after ~5 days.
  • DONE - Using a HP monitor with DP native connection -> Still have the issue (immediately)
  • DONE - Configure HP monitor. Disable DP low-power (set to always active). Disable auto-source. Set DP as default source.
  • DONE - Still problem. Note we hear some sounds from windows (like device dis-/connecting) after some time of inactivity.
  • DONE - Power option - when plugged in, don't turn off the screen anymore (currently, both sleep and screen off is disabled).
  • ... let's see ...
  • More possible alternative fixes:
  • See Dock troubleshooting guide.
  • See power options advanced (-> look at usb things, and many other).
  • If not turning off the screen fix, see if we can recover standard pc sleep.
  • HP support - HP casenummer: 5055921964
  • 20201028 - Installed the following updates
  • 20201028 - In BIOS, disable Fast Boot, check that Thunderbold mode is not on security mode.
  • 20201028 - Set Power screen/PC sleep to 1min / 2min.
  • 20201029 - Set Power screen/PC sleep to 10min / 15min.
  • 20201030 - Switch back to Samsung HDMI monitor.
  • 20201103 - Tell HP issue is fixed apparently
  • 20201103 - Monitor not waking up  :'-((( (PC woken up with mouse). Going to sleep then wake up again (with docking button) fixed the issue.
  • 20201104 - Monitor not waking up (PC woken up ???). Going to sleep then wake up again (with docking button) fixed the issue.
  • 20201104 - Switch to HP E231 DP monitor.
  • 20201104 - Monitor not waking up, although PC not sleeping (also, heard many "beep" like disconnection of device). Fix is to disconnect/connect thunderbolt cable.
  • 20201104 - Restart PC.
  • ... a couple of not-waking-up events with HP monitor.
  • 20201116 - HP BIOS 1.07 + firmware upgrade.

  • 20201215 - ... still many monitor wake-up issues.
  • 20201218 - Finished installing all SW that HP Image Assistant recommended to install.
  • 20201218 - Install new HP Dock SN# 5CGO45Z1FJ (or ZIFJ).

  • 20201220 - ... Although PC was not sleeping (update issue, as reported by powercfg /requests), cannot wake up the monitor. Remote connection showed the PC worked ok. Co-/Deco- didn't solve. Co-/Deco- DP connecter didn't either. What worked is to put pc in sleep with dock button, then wake up it back. Miracle happens.
  • Issue: PC won't go to sleep now.
  • Some tips here. Doing powercfg /requests showed a process MoUsoCoreWorker.exe linked to windows update [1].
  • Proposed workaround: restart windows update service, or install some optional update KB4568831.
  • Note that windows update is reporting an error.
  • Issue: Windows keep saying Slow charger - To speed up charging, use the charger that came with your device.
  • Issue: When machine is idle, over time, we frequently hear Windows notification sound, but don't know what it is (because screen is blank). This may be: network going on/off, slow charger message, other?
  • Issue: Battery usage, HP Jump Starts reported with 32%, why? Also One Drive is reported (7%), should disable that...
