  • Cube rotation: y U' L' U L. Quite slow.
  • Sledgehammer: F R' F' R (or see variants below).
    A bit faster, no cube rotation. Use it for inserting your last f2l pair for partial edge control of your OLL, or to avoid moving your next pair if you've spotted it using look ahead. Apparently the F' is done with the thumb, a bit before doing the R.
  • Case Number 2: F' (r U r')
  • Case Number 3: r' U' R U M' — What about B' R B R' ?
  • Case Number 4: l U L' U' M' — What about B L' B' L ?
When to use the sledgehammer (right-handed left variant): R' F R F' , or "RU" prime: U R U' R' (i.e. sexy move prime).

  • 1. Ignore center pieces
  • 2. The 3-move insert
  • 3. Use one piece to insert another piece
  • 4. Don't move the piece, move the cross!
  • 5. Plan out the entire cross during inspection.

  1. B2 D2 U' R2 F2 D2 R2 U' R2 B2 D2 B U' L D2 B L' R' D' B D', solve: z2 R' D L U L F' D2, quite easy.
  2. B2 R2 B U2 F' U2 B2 R2 F' L2 U2 L U' R' B U' L D2 F D' F, my solve: x2 y L' F' R' B' d R2: I insert BLU first then daisy chain GRE-ORA. Use d R2 to insert RED (better than say U F2). J Perm: R F L R D' R' D' L2, he inserts ORA+GRE (hence inserting RED), saying he can insert BLU later. His solution looks easier on the fingers.
  3. D' B U D2 R F U2 L' B R2 U2 R2 B2 U D R2 F2 D2 B2 D2 x2, solve: x z r' D R' F' u L' : He prepares BLU first left of RED, so that inserting BLU will take ORA with it. Also, puts his cube x r to do the first r' D R' fast. To conclude, instead of U F' face, he does a u L' to avoid turning the F face.
  4. B L U' R D' L U2 F' U' R2 B2 L2 D B2 U D2 R2 F2, cross: x2 B U' D2 R' D F: I found B U' D2 R' D F (or x2 y U2 R' F R2 U' D' R2), but he proposes y R (L F' L') D2 F' u that is more fingertrick friendly. In particular, a 3-move insert, then does u to align the cross, not D.
  • 7. Spend a few minutes per days practicing
  • Do at least 50% of deliberate practice (not just time yourself, but learning new algorithms, doing practice drills).
  • Use CstTimer 2-gen R-U. Set it to 15 moves. Do the solves, thinking of:
  • Practice tracking pieces, when doing the cross. Here easier because only one last cross piece to solve.
  • Plan the pair when solving the last cross piece, or better yet, influence it to get a 3-mover pair.
  • Practice X-crosses.
  • Practice F2L without rotation. Check your F2L algo, making sure pairs are only inserted without rotation, only with R-U moves.
  • Practice solving back pairs. Train inserting pairs both from the back and from the front. When possible, always insert the one in the back first (only front if very easy case).
  • Practice Look-ahead. Track the 2nd pair when doing the first one. Try to solve the 2nd pair as fluently as we can.
  • Practice other algorihtm variation (like Winter variation, COLL, ZBLL, 2GLL...)
  • Use also CstTimer 2-gen L-U to TRAIN THE LEFT HAND. Very important!!!
  • Tips to use muscle memory,
  • 1. Do it a lot -- Say we need 40 tries to do the algo w/o thinking about it, then do 50% more, so 40 + 20 total.
  • 2. Don't make bad habits - use good algs and fingertricks. Learn good algorithms, from algdb.net or CubeSkills, including good fingertricks. But also learn only algs that will be useful for your level or you'll forget.
  • 3. Learn algs in groups (all the square shapes, all the P-shapes).
  • 4. Use training tools to trigger more frequently some PLL / OLL cases, and better train muscle memory. For instance bestsiteever.ru.
  • 5. Repeat the learning process.

  • Good memory NOT needed
  • Conjugates make small changes (A B A', with A called the setup move, and A' the undo setup). Setup move must not destroy the buffer or the adjacent corners/edges that are swapped along.
  • All pieces are solved from the buffer
  • Target is where the buffer needs to go (where we need to shoot).
